The Confident Girl Reads: None Like Him

I'll start by saying I LOVE Jen Wilkin. I don't know her personally, but I have a friend that she disciples and I have heard her take on many issues. I am thankful for her stance on the Christian life and the fact that she is a female that is concerned with theology. This book in particular, None Like Him, is probably my favorite of her works.

Jen wrote this book to point out ten aspects of God's character that are unique to Him alone. This means that we do not possess these characteristics despite having been made in His image. The ten characteristics Jen mentions are God's self-existence, self-sufficiency, eternality, immutability, omnipresence, omniscience, omnipotence, sovereignty, infiniteness, and incomprehensibility. We are clearly not these things, but that is not a bad thing. Jen walks through the reasons that our weakness is for a purpose and that God is not weak in any way.

I appreciate this book because it is inherently God-centered. None Like Him focuses far more on who God is than on who we are. Jen rejects the idea that Christianity is about us and she does so in a way that causes the reader to think and see God outside of the box we tend to put Him in. This book gave me reason to praise the Lord and I think that's probably the biggest compliment I could give.

One of the best quotes from None Like Him to explain what the book's all about is:

"Our primary problem as Christian women is not that we lack self-worth, not that we lack a sense of significance. It's that we lack awe."

I think this book is great for expanding a believers view of God and for turning our hearts upward rather than inward. The things we can learn about God are truly limitless. We can spend our entire lives searching the Bible and finding more Truth. Whether you are a seasoned believer or someone who has never passed the basic understanding of the Gospel, this book will add value to you Christian walk. I recommend this book for anyone and everyone. It is accessible for most ages and the characteristics of God explained by Jen are characteristics that should be known and understood by believers. These characters are ESSENTIAL to understanding who God is and if you do not know them, please read this book! It will cause you to admire and revel in who your great God is!

Side note, you may have noticed that I often don't give bad reviews. In fact, all of my reviews have been recommendations. This is not because I love every book I read, but rather that I choose books from authors who I know are biblically sound and will feed me Truth. In general when you are diligent to understand and hear Truth, your heart will be changed in one way or another regardless. I hesitate to read or give reviews on bad books because I don't think it's worth it unless specifically asked to. That's why I recommend mostly books I love!

Enjoy, and let me know what you think of this awesome work!
